This week's entry is heavy metal's long forgotten answer to "We Are The World".

Assembled by Ronnie James Dio (RIP) in the spring of 1985, Hear N' Aid was a who's who of metal. Members of Dio, Iron Maiden, Journey, Motley Crue, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P, Night Ranger, Keel, Dokken, Blue Oyster Cult and dozens more got together to record a benefit song for African famine relief.

Plagued by contract disputes, record company clearance and massive production delays the track wasn't released until early '86, somewhat lessening the impact. The single (and accompanying album and video) still managed to raise over $1 million in the first year of release.

Enjoy.
